Press Photos - “My Way”
Sunday, December 28th, 2008
My latest foray into the theater press photos was Town Hall Arts Center’s “My Way”. It’s a musical based on songs of Frank Sinatra… I’ve been shooting press photos for Town Hall for the last 2 seasons and it’s always fun and a little challenging… Usually we take them before the set is finished so we have to come up with some sort of backdrop or makeshift set… This time we had a little of both as we used some fabric that’s in the show as a backdrop and the bar which had just had a fresh coat of paint and was a little sticky! They also wanted them b&w to go with the Sinatra theme… Anyway, here’s a couple of my favorites-

Sisters
Wednesday, December 17th, 2008
I had the opportunity to shoot the Moore sisters recently… My good friend Missy Moore is a stage actress here in Denver and her sister Mandy, who is a choreographer in LA, came out for the holidays and wanted a portrait of the two of them for their parents. I figured a theater would be a good setting for them as they are both in the industry (as well as their parents, who are actors/directors). We shot all over the theater, in the seats, in the dressing room, and even a prop storage attic… Check out a few shots-

Beyond the Selects
Saturday, December 13th, 2008
I finished working on the selects from my latest headshot shoot of Nora from the earlier post… I always let the client choose their 7 favorites, then polish em up and deliver the finals… After that I usually go through them and look for any that I really like, sometimes they’re outtakes or sometimes they’re just shots that I have a reaction to. I can’t really explain why a shot will jump out at me, it just does, you know when a photo has potential, it speaks to you subconsciously. I don’t know if its from experience or instincts, but anyway I found a few photos in Nora’s shoot that I had to explore further…
This first one has definitely spent some time in photoshop… Too much?

Does this one seem a little senior portraity? Maybe it’s the pose, I don’t know, whatayall think?

New Headshots
Thursday, December 11th, 2008
I love shooting headshots… It’s great to have one on one time with a subject that needs what I love to do - portraits. It’s a little nerve racking that they put their trust in you to capture who they are so someone can judge them at an audition. I try to make sure that each shoot is treated differently and that I explore new ways to create an otherwise plain headshot… So here is my latest headshot victim, Nora Garrett, who is graduating next year from the Denver School of the Arts-

Here’s one that’s a little different but has a little LA actress feel to it-

PFC - The Series
Sunday, December 7th, 2008
I mentioned in my last post about how I work in a restaurant downtown, well I’ve started a little portrait series with all my coworkers… At least the ones that don’t mind sitting for me! My goal is to get portraits of at least all the front of the house staff, as the cooks are not the most willing subjects. There are always so many interesting characters that work at restaurants, I wanted to explore this a little. So check out a couple from the first batch and I’ll post more as I get them…

PFC
Thursday, December 4th, 2008
So, I work part time at a restaurant in downtown Denver and while I was in college I would bother people into letting me shoot them for various assignments… There are always interesting people that work in restaurants so I had a plethora of subjects at hand. Since I’ve graduated I haven’t used this wonderful resource of interesting subjects… Stupid? Yes! So I once again began to bother people into letting me shoot them, the first shoot was of Aaron in his uniform outside in the back alley area-

I’ve got another project in the works abusing my fellow coworkers by sticking cameras in their faces… I’ll post some examples soon!

Senior Portrait?
Thursday, December 4th, 2008
My cousin Daelyn is into her senior year in high school and needed the ubiquitous senior portrait for the yearbook… She lives in rural eastern Colorado and I think her graduating class is somewhere around a dozen kids! So she contacted the photog in the family and she traveled here to Denver for the session… I’ve never done a senior portrait before and my style might be a little different but hopefully she’ll stand out in the yearbook! We shot in the studio and at a downtown park so we’d have some variety… Check it out-

It was a beautiful fall day as you can see… I just sent her the images so hopefully she approves! I would definitely love to do more senior portraits, high school kids seem to be down for anything as long as they look cool!
